OPPORTUNITIES
Models of Involvement
We welcome inquiries from curious and dedicated people who are excited to work in a team-oriented environment. Opportunities to get involved with the lab are described below. Prospective lab members should email Dr. Lucas with a description of your interests and how they might connect to the lab's research, your availability, a resume/CV, an unofficial transcript, and details of any prior research experience. Prospective graduate students and postdocs should also describe why they think the lab will be a good fit.
Undergraduates
We are excited to support undergraduates looking to get involved in research. Undergraduates typically work on small, independent projects alongside Dr. Lucas and other lab members. These projects let you do real science in a supportive environment and contribute to ongoing projects in the lab.
Most often, undergraduates work in the lab for course credit in BIOL, ECOL, or ZOOL, in 507 (one semester), 528 (two semesters), or 530 (two semesters honors) courses. Students interested in independent or honors research courses should contact Dr. Lucas about potential course-based research the term before you would like to start. Research for credit can be conducted in fall, winter, or summer.
Students interested in paid summer research must apply for a fellowship, such as a PURE or NSERC award, though there may occasionally be other paid opportunities. If you are interested in applying for a summer fellowship, contact Dr. Lucas by the December prior to the summer during which you would like to be doing research. Fellowship deadlines are in January. More information about fellowship opportunities for UCalgary undergraduates is available here.

Graduate Students
Dr. Lucas is always open to inquiries about MSc and PhD opportunities. Please contact Dr. Lucas with the information indicated above to discuss potential projects prior to applying.
Both graduate degrees are awarded through UCalgary's Biological Sciences program and are thesis-based experiences. Graduate stipend is offered for both degrees and is supported in part through teaching assistantships. Details about these programs are available at:
